CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — The rapidly growing population of St. George and surrounding communities has led to busier medical offices with more patients than ever. Recognizing the challenges posed by this increased demand, Valley Women’s Health is adapting to ensure that local patients continue to receive the exceptional care they deserve.
Valley Women’s Health recently adopted a rotating physician call schedule. This new schedule allows the clinic to have a dedicated doctor on-call for labor and delivery 24/7 while maintaining office workflow during normal business hours.
“We’re always making adjustments and doing our best to ensure we’re providing quality care,” Valley Women’s Health OB/GYN Dr. Coby T. Brown said. “We’re striving to provide our patients with efficient clinic visits with minimal delays and decreased wait times. This also allows us to increase our overall available appointments with our providers to meet the growing demands in our area.”
The number of OB/GYN providers in the St. George area hasn’t increased despite significant population growth in recent years. Valley Women’s Health practice administrator Quin Monson said that each of the clinic’s doctors might have as many as 25 deliveries per month, which leaves little time to see patients with other needs at the office.
Along with labor and delivery, the providers at Valley Women’s Health maintain a busy schedule of clinical obstetric services including 3D and 4D ultrasounds, high-risk prenatal care, prenatal education, postpartum care and breastfeeding support, not to mention gynecology. It’s a substantial workload for their staff of seven doctors and two nurse practitioners.
Other offices have adopted this scheduling approach in an effort to provide the best patient care possible. Dr. Chad C. Lunt of St. George OB/GYN is now part of the rotating call schedule at Valley Women’s Health as well.
Despite the rotating call schedule, Valley Women’s Health makes every attempt to keep expecting mothers with their preferred physicians. Patients with a birth plan that includes an induction or a C-section will be scheduled for one of their doctor’s on-call days whenever possible, Monson said.
“We understand that there’s often a special bond between doctors and their patients, and our doctors love delivering babies,” Monson said.
