ST. GEORGE – An SUV ended up on its side and two passenger cars were damaged in a three-car accident at the intersection of 700 East and Tabernacle Street in St. George Friday afternoon.
Around 3:10 p.m., the SUV was traveling north on 700 East when it came to the Tabernacle intersection and started to make a left turn, colliding with a Volkswagen passenger car going south, St. George Police Officer Travis Willinger said.
The impact smashed the front of the Volkswagen and sent the SUV into a Honda passenger car waiting to make a right turn onto 700 East. The SUV finally came to rest on its side in the intersection.
LeeAnne Stanard, a witness to the accident, said the SUV flew into the air and landed on top of the Honda’s hood, then slipped off onto the road.
No one was reported being seriously injured in the accident, Willinger said, nor did anyone need to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. All three cars had to be towed from the scene.
The driver of the SUV was cited, Willinger said, and there were no signs of impaired driving related to the accident. The scene was cleared by 3:40 p.m.

Traffic accidents and their related economic costs, property damage insurance claims, medical insurance claims, long and short term disability claims, lost wages due to vehicle loss or injury, salary costs of emergency workers to respond, clean -up and investigate, emergency vehicle equipment costs related to accident response ect… are quickly becomming this area’s number one financial impact problem. This says nothing of the ever increasing danger to the general public who should have a reasonable expectation to be able to go to work, take their kids to school or go shopping in a safe environment. As I have been speaking about in prior post for the last several months, When is area law enforcement going to ramp up their presence and increase slective enforcement measures at intersections or identified high incident accident sites. All of the good hearted pleas to have drivers pay attention and drive safely falls on deaf ears. Selective enforcement and increased police presence works. The cost of selective enforcement posts can easily be saved by a reduction in accident rates. One accident can result in property and medical costs that far exceed the salary of a police officer for an entire year. This carnage will continue until public demand forces the police to change their tactics.
Everyday I see the St George news and everyday there are auto accidents. I live in Mesquite and I quit going to Vegas just for this reason. St George seems like slower calmer traffic than Vegas, I think these drivers just need to slow down and pay more attention, and give yourself time to get to your destination. It’s not worth losing a life to speed and make odd turns to get to point B.

That’s not even what happened. That little car knocked over the SUV causing it to roll. The two teenahers in the var were clearly not paying attention
