Show description

Paris, 1904. Einstein and Picasso walk into a bar … .This is the setup for Steve Martin’s long-running, off-Broadway, absurdist comedy, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.”

The show places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in the famous Parisian cabaret, The Lapin Agile, in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism.

As the wine and wit flow, the egos ignite and the fate of the 20th century is celebrated as these giants of discovery are met by bar regulars in hilarious discussion about science, inspiration, art, love, heartache and what it means to be right on the edge of doing something great with ones’ life.

In his first comedy for the stage, the brilliant comic genius and renowned actor and screenwriter, Martin, plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune that promises gut-busting laughter and infectious hope for a better tomorrow.

The amazingly talented cast includes some of Southern Utah’s best actors with experiences from both the stage and screen. St. George favorites returning to The Stage Door include Coy Andrew Shinn Jr as Pablo Picasso (A Bedfull of Foreigners, The Full Monty, Rock of Ages); Eric Liebhardt as Albert Einstein (Something Rotten, Rent); R Scott Zaborski as Sagot (Legally Blonde, What About Boys, and self-written A Thoroughfare for Freedom Beat); Chops Downward as Freddy (SoU Improv); Jalee Scott as The Countess (Boeing Boeing, The Full Monty, and current Co-Artistic Director of the Stage Door Theater); and Utah acting legend Dean Jones as Gaston (Red, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Rock of Ages).
