Robert Ward has been teaching and coaching for the past 40 years here in St. George. He started out at Dixie High School where he taught and coached for a decade and then moved over to Snow Canyon High School in 1994 when that school opened, where he has been ever since.

He continued to teach and coach with a passion for his students and athletes and their successes and was always there through their failures. He has always had an open-door policy for anyone who needed a friend or a listening ear.

If you needed a safe place to eat lunch, have a good cry, talk about your life or just “be,” you knew you could go to Coach Ward’s room and feel important.

Spanish teacher has been his career title, but Coach has been his identity. Whether that was life lessons in the classroom as he taught you the language or perseverance as an athlete as he pushed you to your limits and then showed you how you could surpass those limits. His support and love of his “kids” as he affectionately called the thousands of students and athletes over the years has helped shape and mold many generations of St. George.

There will be an open house on Friday, May 17, at Snow Canyon High School from 2-3 p.m. This is open to the public. And for those who cannot make the open house, feel free to take a moment and send an email to we will then print out these emails and put them into a memory book for Coach as a gift.
