ST. GEORGE — A man from Canada died in a rollover crash on Wednesday in a remote area of Millard County, authorities said.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol news release, the incident was first reported at 2:40 p.m., although the crash may have occurred as early as 10:30 a.m. It happened on state Route 21, about 5 miles from the Nevada border.

“A 2016 Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on SR-21 near milepost 5 when the vehicle drifted off the right edge of the pavement,” the news release stated, adding that the driver appears to have overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times.

Some time later, the wreckage was noticed by a passing motorist and the driver was discovered dead at the scene.

“The vehicle landed in a large culvert and was not easily visible from the roadway,” the statement adds, noting that the time of the accident is still being determined.

The crash was one of three fatal traffic incidents reported on Wednesday in Southern Utah, each in a different county.

Earlier that morning in Iron County, a semi truck driver who had reportedly been cut off by another car on Interstate 15 near Parowan, ended up crashing into a fence adjacent to the northbound lanes. The 60-year-old driver, who has not yet been identified, was transported via Life Flight helicopter to St. George Regional Hospital, where he died later Wednesday.

And in Kane County, at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, the driver of a pickup truck was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 89. Authorities said the man was trying to pass a semi truck when his Ford F-150 collided with a northbound Ford Edge SUV. The semi truck that was being passed also reportedly struck both of the other vehicles. All four occupants of the SUV were reportedly injured, two of them critically.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
