ST. GEORGE — Sparks from an electrical outlet connected to a fish aquarium caused smoke to fill the lobby of the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins Wednesday morning.
Santa Clara Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Con Fulde told St. George News the outlet smoke may have not been “extensive” but still caused concern at the home for elderly and disabled military veterans, located at 160 N. 200 East.
“When you hear veterans home, there’s a little more urgency,” Fulde said.
The front desk area and a nearby conference room were evacuated as firefighters aired out the lobby. There were no other evacuations, including those of facility residents.
“We had to air out the front lobby but otherwise no evacuations,” Fulde said.
