The 24th annual Dixie Power Kite Festival was filled with laughter, music and children running around with kites in tow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Encampment Mall was full of life, with families from across Washington County there to support childhood literacy.

At the beginning of the year, approximately 16,000 Washington County elementary school students were given reading logs to fill out at home with their parents.

Those that brought their completed reading log to the kite festival could exchange it for a kite, book or voucher to access festival activities, including a bounce house, mechanical bull or rock wall, among others.

The Washington County School District Foundation also sells books for $1 to raise money and promote the cause.

The festival was free to the public and supported by over 60 sponsors, food trucks and vendors this year. Local cloggers, dancers and singers provided entertainment throughout the day.
