Washington County Republican Women luncheon set for March at St. George’s Abbey Inn

ST. GEORGE —  The Washington County Republican Women (WCRW) are hosting their monthly luncheon, Thursday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m at the Abbey Inn, located at 1129 S. Bluff Street, St. George.

This month the women will hear from our newly appointed acting County Attorney, Eric Clarke. He will discuss pressing issues such as endangered species, transportation, property rights, impact fees, etc. and how we can get involved.

“Come learn why the federal government controls so much of our land in Washington County and what it means to you. We have a great opportunity for public input,” states Lesa Sandberg, WCRW president.

Clarke grew up in Southern Utah. After graduating from high school, he served the people of Argentina for two years. Following his time in Argentina, he attended Utah State University for his undergraduate degree. There, he met and married the love of his life and his wife of nearly 18 years, Kristen. Upon his graduation from USU, he spent two years serving as a teacher for “Teach For America” in a low income elementary school in Phoenix, Arizona. He learned to appreciate members of the community that serve in the public sector — teachers, police officers, firefighters, and others.

Clarke and his family then moved back to Utah, where he attended law school at BYU. During law school, he served on the Law Review Board and graduated with honors. He has learned from excellent legal mentors. After law school, he clerked for Judge Stewart in the US District Court in Salt Lake City.

He then jumped at the chance to return to beautiful Southern Utah, where he began working as an Assistant County Attorney under the direction of Brock Belnap in the Washington County Attorney’s Office.

He has worked hard to serve the county at the County Attorney’s Office for nearly nine years. He has served as the Civil Lead Attorney for seven of those years and was recently named to be the Acting County Attorney and was sworn in as such on February 18, 2020.

Clarke has been an active member of the Republican Party for his entire adult life. He has served the party in many different ways, including serving as a member of the Washington County Republican Party Executive Committee as the District 71 Legislative Chair in a term that ended two years ago. He has six children, ages two through 16 and loves to spend time with his family — especially hiking, camping, fishing, biking, rock climbing, and canyoneering. He loves to enjoy all of the beauty and recreational opportunities that his home among the red rock offers.

Embracing Our Heroes Scholarship: This month we kindly ask our luncheon attendees to donate $5 to the scholarship fund that helps spouses of our military members locally.
