Support the written word at the 3rd annual Southern Quill Benefit Reading and Silent auction

ST. GEORGE — The 3rd Annual Southern Quill Benefit Reading & Silent Auction will be held in the Zion Room (5th floor, Holland) on the Campus of Dixie State University on Wednesday, April 3.

The Southern Quill is also thrilled to have as guest readers Tom C. Hunley and Dorothy Allred Solomon.

Bidding starts at 6:30 p.m and the reading begins at 7:00 p.m.

Over 75 items are up for auction, including resort stays, snow mobile rentals, merchandise, gift cards for local businesses and restaurants, artwork, and much more. The event is free and open to the public.

Hunley is a professor in the MFA/BA Creative Writing programs at Western Kentucky University. His latest poetry collections are “Here Lies” (Stephen F. Austin State University Press 2018) and “The state that Springfield is in” (Split Lip Press 2016). His poems have been published in Crazyhorse, Michigan Quarterly Review, New Orleans Review, River Styx, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere.

Garrison Keillor read three of Hunley’s poems on his nationally-syndicated radio program, “The Writer’s Almanac.”

Solomon is a local memoirist and DSU faculty member. She is the author of several books, including “Predators, Prey, and Other Kinfolk: Growing Up in Polygamy” (W. W. Norton 2003) and “Daughter of the Saints: Growing Up In Polygamy” (W. W Norton 2004).

She has appeared on various television programs to discuss her work, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, the Today Show, and Larry King Live.

Both of the author’s books will  be available for purchase at the event.

Local band, NVM, will also be performing a special acoustic set.
