St. George Rotary hosts 5th annual charity golf tournament

ST. GEORGE – Invite your neighbors, co-workers, brother-in-law or the boss to Swing for Literacy in St. George Rotary Club’s 5th annual charity golf tournament on Thursday, with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon.

For a total of $400 per foursome – or $125 per person – as many as 18 teams will play 18 holes on the beautiful Sunbrook Golf Course, enjoy lunch and compete for prizes, including more than $1500 in donated merchandise from Camping World, once again the event’s main sponsor.

In addition to Camping World, other event sponsors are Zion’s Bank, Savage and Esplin CPA’s, Gold Strike and Vive Studios.

Thanks to the hard work of the event committee, proceeds will benefit literacy and scholarship projects such as dictionaries for all 3rd grade students in the Washington County School District and the club’s most recent project, a newly established scholarship for a student at Dixie Technical College.

Additional funding will go towards the signature humanitarian project for this 59-member local service club, established in January 1931, which involves building simple stoves for Mayan families in Guatemala.

The St. George Rotary Club is one of five Rotary clubs in Washington County, including Red Rock, Dixie Sunrise, Hurricane Valley and Zion Canyon Rotary. Rotary is a communitywide, statewide and worldwide service club, with current membership of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends and community leaders, including more than 1800 in Utah.

Rotarians serve in a variety of ways to create positive, lasting change in the local community and around the world. Rotarians promote peace, fight disease, dig wells to provide clean drinking water, work to protect the health of mothers and children; support education and economic growth in 3rd world countries.
