ST. GEORGE — What a year 2020 has been with everyone encouraged, expected and even warned to stay home and safe from a nasty virus. So what do we do? Like so many others, we cleaned closets.

This was an excellent time to dive in and throw away accumulated junk, gather up unused household items for donation, and organize and arrange what we keep. On Feb. 20, take a break from the norm and venture into the past as we explore some of the special clothing treasures that reside at the McQuarrie Memorial Museum in St. George.

Denise Winter, a historical clothier and researcher, will lead the guided journey as we take an in-depth look at some of the special treasures in the clothing collection to reveal their hidden stories. Who were the people that wore them? What is their significance to pioneer history? What was the purpose of the garment? What do the garments tell us about the people who wore them?

The discussion and exhibit will include clothing worn by citizens of Southern Utah, including military uniforms worn by Erastus Snow and George Woodward. Sometimes, you find some of the greatest treasures in the smallest places!

Join us for an interesting presentation on Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. Bring a mask. Physical distancing will be observed, but the event is certain to be informative and entertaining.

At this time, the McQuarrie Museum is open on Monday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Masks are required, all health guidelines are followed and hand sanitizer is available. Admission is free.

The museum is located at 145 N. 100 East in St. George and is wheelchair accessible. For additional information, visit or call 435-628-7274.
