ST. GEORGE — Dixie Sunrise Rotary’s 5th annual “Evening of Elegance” fundraising event on Saturday, April 6 in St. George drew a crowd of 185 beautifully attired, enthusiastically eager-to-bid attendees and raised more than $43,000 after expenses.

Most of the income came from a live auction which took in $9300 –  a silent auction which added a total of $15,400 to the event’s bottom line while the fund-a-need portion of the affair accounted for another $15,700.

There was original art, tours, jewelry, theater tickets – you name it, and “it” was likely up for bid. The top 5 sellers of the evening included a pheasant hunt, a basketball autographed by Karl Malone, 6 date nights complete with dinner and a show; a $1000 gift certificate for tires; a majestic photograph of a bison and a one-of-a-kind wind sculpture.

According to event committee co-chairs Darrin Hallman of St. George and Art Haines of New Harmony, the proceeds will be divided between three non-profit organizations, including Washington County Search and Rescue; Neighborhood Connections, which provides weekend food packets to nearly 800 hungry children in 6 area schools and the Dixie Sunrise Rotary Foundation for ongoing and future service projects in the Washington County community.

Thanks to all Rotarians who served on the committee, especially the Silent Auction subcommittee of Suzanne Leonelli, Pam Heath, Art Haines and Donna MacBean, as well as emcee and auctioneer Ed Tracey.

A special thanks to all the friends and family of Dixie Sunrise Rotary who opened their wallets in support of this amazing – and elegant, evening.
