Arlene May Benson

April 23, 1932-May 30, 2023

Arlene May Benson, age 91, passed away May 30, 2023. She was born on April 23, 1932, in Blanding, Utah, to André  Hector DeLaney and Lila Rogers DeLaney. She married Martin Joseph Benson III on Sept. 23, 1953, and they were later sealed in the LDS St. George Temple on Sept. 23, 1993.

Arlene grew up in the small town of Blanding, Utah, and always knew how people were related across generations to those she grew up around. She was well known for her extensive genealogy knowledge and for remembering all the birthdays of family including details such as birth weights.

She met Martin while attending business school in Salt Lake City. Together they raised a family in Emigration Canyon. She served different church callings over the years, including den mother of the Cub Scouts. After their children were done with school, Martin and Arlene moved to Yuma, Arizona, and enjoyed visiting Mexico. She was remembered most for her homemade bread, jams, biscuits & gravy and other goodies by her children and grandchildren. 

Arlene is survived by her children Steven (Nyra) Benson, Marty (Melva) Benson, Jolene Sullivan, Jerry Benson, Jeffrey (Troylinn) Benson; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren one great-great-grandchild; sisters Joanne (Leonard) McCosh and Ernestine Camp and brother David Coppenger. 

Arlene is proceeded in death by her husband Martin J. Benson III, daughter Linda, sons James and Jon, brother Roger, sister Marie and her parents. 

Her family would like to acknowledge the special care given to Arlene by her caregivers Hilda, Deb, Anne and Laurie, as well as the team of caregivers at Dixie Home Hospice.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 10, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leeds Chapel, 75 North Main Street, Leeds, Utah. Funeral services will take place immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m., also at the Leeds Chapel. 

The interment will take place at the LaVerkin City Cemetery, 580 North State St., LaVerkin, Utah.
