At about 8:22 p.m., Dammeron Valley Fire and Rescue located the injured person after being dispatched for emergency services. Public Information Officer Hunter Wolfe said his crews arrived first on the scene and located the motorcyclist off Gunlock Road.

Due to the location of the injured person, they had to utilize a technical rescue using a rope and basket to move the patient to a safe location. They then stabilized him for emergency transportation.

“Santa Clara-Ivins arrived on scene and was there for paramedic response and then handed it off to Mercy Air,” Wolfe said.

Mercy Air then airlifted the male to St. George Regional Hospital in serious condition with “not life-threatening” injuries, said Washington County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Deputy Graham Hancock.

Wolfe said he did not know the speed the motorcyclist was traveling when he lost control and wrecked, resulting in him landing some distance from the road.

“It was pretty far,” Wolfe noted. “That is for sure.”

Wolfe mentioned prevalence of motorcyclists in the Gunlock area.

“The motorcyclists love that road because there are so many curves, but man, if you hit them wrong you can get yourself into some trouble,” Wolfe said.

Hancock said the motorcyclist failed to manipulate a turn but was unsure of the reason.

“It is a common area right there for motorcyclists to not maintain a turn because they are going too fast,” Hancock said.

There were no other vehicles or individuals involved in the wreck. The motorcyclist initially was stranded for nearly 90 minutes before calling for emergency aid due to a lack of cell service.

Gunlock Fire, Santa Clara-Ivins Fire and Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene as well. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation of the incident.

This report is based on statements from law enforcement officials and first responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
