‘Amazing’: This St. George couple started a luxury linen business that’s changing the bedding industry

ST GEORGE —From duvet covers to bath towels, this new linen company has you covered.

Jacque Colemere and her husband Spencer own Make It Blanket – a linen business inspired by the lack of bedding size options and the true luxury of linen.

“We really just want to change the bedding industry,” Jacque Colemere said, “and provide people with something luxurious. Linen is definitely a luxurious fabric.”

After dealing with years of incorrect bedding sizes, Jacque Colemere said she had given up on finding anything that would properly fit their bed.

While most bedding comes in standard sizes, many beds are only becoming bigger, making buying bedding nearly impossible – something she knows all too well. She bought 10 different options to try on her own bed, but nothing fit, and her husband’s feet were still sticking out from under the covers.

Spencer and Jacque Colemere both earned their MBA degrees from Utah Valley University and had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe for two weeks after graduation. During their journey, they explored the exceptional craftsmanship and quality that goes into producing artisanal products.

They became captivated by the remarkable properties of linen, which they discovered to be a vital part of European culture, particularly in the Baltic region, where it is used in clothing and home textiles.

Due to the naturally luscious environment, including the long, cool summers, the fertile soil provides optimal growing conditions for the flax plant, resulting in high-quality fibers.

“When you think of linen, you usually think of it being scratchy, itchy and wrinkly,” she said. “But not this type. It’s pure linen and so incredibly soft — it’s amazing.”

She said most linen commonly found in stores and online is mass-produced in China and is a linen blend that is falsely labeled as 100% linen.

Linen is one of the oldest fabrics in the world and is used for its many benefits. It’s thermo-regulating, hypoallergenic, anti-dust, anti-static and anti-stain. Linen is a natural fiber, and Make It Blanket utilizes the entire plant, which results in almost zero waste. By using sustainable materials, she said they are doing their part to contribute to a greener planet.

“It keeps people really cool in the summer, which is really great for St. George, and warm in the winter,” she said. “If you learn to care for linen correctly, it’ll last 10-plus years. And what some people may not know is that every time you wash it, it actually gets softer.”

Make it Blanket’s products are made by one family in Europe that has a long history in the linen industry. Jacque Colemere said she and her husband have a close relationship with the family and speak with them once a week.

Products by Make It Blanket include linen duvet covers, quilts, sheet sets, euro shams, pillow covers, weighted blankets, tablecloths, table runners, napkins, robes and more. All items are made to order and no inventory is in stock. The company offers in-home measurements, and turnaround time for orders ranges from five days to six weeks, depending on the amount of customization.

As for future plans, they hope to offer all household linen items soon and work with more local designers.

“There is a really big problem in the blanket market and bedding market today with a lack of options,” she said. “We started this company to provide people with excess sizing and the ability to customize everything. And that’s what we’re doing.”
