Mall tenants ‘step up to the plate’ for grand opening of The Terrace in St. George

ST. GEORGE — Around 1,000 Southern Utah residents descended upon the Red Cliffs Mall for their Grand Opening of the new outdoor venue, The Terrace, on Friday morning.

Events continued throughout the day at the venue near the mall’s south side. Additional events will take place for Mother’s Day weekend.

The excitement built as three sky divers performed a smoke show and landed in front of the crowd. The Terrace is an outdoor area showcasing new restaurants, amenities and a new Al’s Sporting Goods store.

“We couldn’t be more happy about the community support,” Red Cliffs Mall General Manager Cory Ashby said. “We had probably 1000 people show up for 500 bags.”

Ashby said the mall tenants “really stepped up to the plate” by giving away a lot of products and gift cards. Al’s Sporting Goods gave away VIP pricing for the winner’s entire lifetime. He said that

the prize would be worth hundreds to thousands of dollars by continuing to shop there.

The Terrace shines with waterfalls, grassy area and seating built into the landscape. Ashby said The Terrace is part of an ongoing rejuvenation project at the mall.

Throughout the day, there was a wide range of activities and giveaways from various retailers. The day began with an early Hype Bike Event Sponsored by Lululemon, including spin classes.

Other businesses involved included Jay Bird’s Chicken who gave away free waffles, a climbing wall was set up by the U.S. Army, RCM Photo Booth, food trucks, outdoor games and a Disney Princesses singalong by Barnes and Noble.

One of the mall’s new restaurants, WannaCinn, offered free samples of their signature cinnamon rolls.

In the evening, there was a chicken eating contest sponsored by Jay Bird’s Chicken involving local celebrities trying out the heat sequence. The evening wrapped up with country singer Chris Peterson at The Terrace.
