Region 10 softball: Warriors, Thunder, Reds all victorious in early matchups on the diamond

ST. GEORGE — There were three Region 10 softball games Friday night as local teams continued playing through a cold beginning of the season.

Desert Hills is off to a strong start, achieving a 9-4 overall record and winning its two Region 10 games so far.

Snow Canyon also won its first two Region 10 contests and is 7-6 overall.

Rounding out the current Region 10 standings are Cedar (2-3 overall, 1-0 Region 10), Crimson Cliffs (4-5, 0-2), Dixie (4-6, 0-1), Hurricane (3-3, 0-2) and Pine View (4-3).

Hurricane vs. Snow Canyon

On Friday, the Warriors rallied to defeat Hurricane 5-3.

The visiting Tigers led 2-1 at the top of the third, but the Warriors responded with a run in the bottom of that frame and three more tallies in the fourth.

Hurricane got one back in the top of the seventh but Snow Canyon escaped with the win.

Emma Daniel had 10 strikeouts in the Warriors win while Abby Stout took the loss on the bump for Hurricane, striking out five.

Alyssa Staheli paced Snow Canyon with a double, home run and two RBIs. Meah Stafford, Kennadi Gates and Daniel each had an RBI in the win. 

Hurricane was led at the plate by Anniston Hutchings and her home run. Maryjane Erickson recorded an RBI in the setback.

Desert Hills vs. Crimson Cliffs

Meanwhile in Washington, Desert Hills erupted for a six-run third inning and defeated the Mustangs 13-8.

Desert Hills churned out 10 hits and committed three errors. Crimson Cliffs recorded seven hits and committed six miscues.

Thunder pitcher Lulu West hurled nine strikeouts for the win. McKenna Cahoon also threw nine strikeouts in taking the loss for the Mustangs.

Seven different Thunder batters had at least one RBI in the victory, led by Hallee Heath’s three runs knocked home. West helped her own cause with two RBIs and Aisey Gargano also batted two home in the win. 

Four Mustangs batters (Hallee Tebbs, Abbey Morris, Paisley Lantz, Cahoon) had a single RBI while Alexis Bang and Riley Askand each drove in a pair of runs in the defeat.

Cedar vs. Dixie

And over at Dixie, Cedar exploded for a seven-run third inning and an 11-run blitz in the fourth to defeat the Flyers 19-2.

Haylee Campbell led the way for the Reds, blasting three hits and driving in five RBIs. Lexus Ludlow homered twice and drove in four Cedar runs in the big win.  

Eliza Kesterson had two hits and two RBIs for Dixie in the loss.

Two games are scheduled for Monday, March 27:  Dixie at Cedar at 3 p.m. and Snow Canyon at Hurricane at 7 p.m.

And three games are scheduled for Tuesday, March 28: Crimson Cliffs at Cedar at 3 p.m. followed by Snow Canyon at Pine View at 7 p.m. and Desert Hills at Hurricane at 7 p.m.
