Region 10 girls golf: led by freshman, Crimson Cliffs edges Pine View to win season opener

ST. GEORGE — The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs won the season-opening Region 10 girls golf match on Wednesday afternoon.

Playing the front nine holes at St. George Golf Club, the Mustangs’ top four golfers posted a team score of 182, edging defending state champion Pine View by three strokes. The Cedar Reds finished a close third with 187 strokes. 

Leading the way for Crimson Cliffs was freshman Kate Walker, who shot a 3-under-par score of 34. The lone Region 10 golfer to shoot below par, Walker had three birdies and made par on the other six holes of the par-37 front nine.

Finishing in a tie for second-best score of the afternoon were Pine View’s Hallie Wieland and Hurricane’s Ellie Johnson, who each shot a 3-over score of 40.

Rounding out Crimson’s top four scores were Kayla Dillingham with 47, Jakell Cummings with 49, and Lexie Leavitt and Alyssa Belnap with 52 apiece.

Due to next week being Washington County School District’s spring break, the next Region 10 girls golf match is scheduled for Thursday, March 23 at Southgate Golf Club in St. George. The 18-hole event is scheduled to tee off at 1:30 p.m.
