ST. GEORGE — After hearing an explosion, several LaVerkin residents stepped outside to see their neighbor’s home engulfed in flames Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 2:41 p.m., the Hurricane Valley Fire District responded to reports of a structure fire at 105 N. 60 East.
Several neighbors reported the fire after hearing an explosion. Upon investigating, they found the back wall of a nearby home in flames, according to a news release issued by Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Decker.
Heavy smoke billowed from “all the openings in the residence” as crews arrived on the scene, the release reads. Firefighters contained the fire to the building of origin. The home was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
Due to fire damage and the home’s age, the incident rendered it uninhabitable, according to the release. And the occupants of the home are receiving assistance from family and neighbors. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Decker told St. George News.
Two fire engines, two ladder trucks, an ambulance, a squad truck and a command vehicle were dispatched to combat the fire, Decker said. The Hildale-Colorado City Fire Department also responded to the call.
This report is based on statements from police and may not contain the full scope of findings.
