ST. GEORGE — The Dixie High School Jetettes won their fourth consecutive state drill team championship Friday night, with region rival Desert Hills finishing in second place.
Competing in the 4A state competition at Utah Valley University in Orem on Thursday and Friday, Dixie earned first place in both the military and show categories, while finishing second to Ridgeline in the dance category.
Meanwhile, the Desert Hills Tempest Line earned runner-up honors by taking third in both military and dance and second in show.
The Snow Canyon Eshelles also placed among the top five in all three categories and finished fifth overall. Also making Friday’s finals from Region 10 were Cedar and Crimson Cliffs.
Dixie head coach Laurel Peterson said afterward that she, along with assistant coaches Heidi Taggart, Hailey Swensen and Lindsay Hurd, were all “so proud of the Jetettes.”
“They competed at the highest level at the state championship and came out on top,” Peterson told St. George News. “Their work ethic, talent, passion and determination is what makes them champions. All of their hard work paid off, and they performed at their very best.”
For 13 seniors on the Jetettes roster, the win marks the fourth of their high school careers. Additionally, six Jetettes won their third state title, 12 girls won their second and seven won their first, Peterson noted.
“This group of girls are amazing dancers and it is a joy to work with them,” she added, expressing her appreciation for the parents, the school administration and the members of the community for their ongoing support.
