ST. GEORGE — The M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center glowed with excitement and plenty of glitter at the 13th annual “Dixie’s Got Talent” competition put on by the Utah Tech University Alumni Association on Thursday.
The night brought in a full crowd and boasted acts with comedy, pianists, dancing, ventriloquism, singing, guitarists and yo-yo tricks.
Audience members, and those attending virtually, donated money as a way to vote for their favorite acts. In total, $26,279 dollars was raised to be used towards future student scholarships.
This year’s winner in the adult category, winning a prize of $500, was Utah Tech student Kivrin Glassco. She charmed the audience with her vocal performance of “She Used to Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles.
“I know how much it means to me to have scholarships,” Glassco said regarding the money raised. “The fact that other people get that too, it just it feels good.”
The runner up in the adult category, Locklin Hammett, showcased his talents an electric guitar and took home a prize of $250.
Bryce Christiansen impressed the audience enough to win first place and $500 in the youth category with his performance on the piano.
“It feels like a fever dream right now, my brain hasn’t even registered that I won yet,” Christiansen said.
Coming in second place for the youth division was the energetic group of young dancers, 2 One Productionz. They will be using their $250 prize money to travel to other competitions.
Miss Utah 2022, Lindsey Larsen, hosted the event featuring ten contestants in the youth category, and nine in the adult category, sharing the stage as they competed for both judge’s scores, and audience donations. The performances with the highest combined total of judges scores and money raised became the winner in their respective categories during the competition.
