CEDAR CITY — Born more than two weeks into the new year, Garfield County’s first baby of 2023 has arrived.
Johnny Louis Barnes, son of Karen and Jason Barnes, was born at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch at 11:02 p.m. on Jan. 16.
The baby weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 19.7 inches long, according to a news release from hospital spokesperson Becki Bronson of Intermountain Health.
The dark-haired baby was born less than an hour before his scheduled due date of Jan. 17, Karen Barnes told Cedar City News via telephone.
Barnes said the labor and delivery went smoothly and that she and the baby are now home from the hospital and doing well.
Barnes, who also has a 15-year-old son named Jack, said Johnny’s older brother helped choose the name, basing it on a favorite baseball player.
The Barnes family resides in neighboring Kane County. They received a prize basket from Intermountain Health that included donations from three Utah-based baby product vendors, Minky Couture, Loulou and Company and Over the Moon.
Last year’s New Year’s baby in Garfield County wasn’t born until Feb. 5.
