CEDAR CITY —  Although several crashes and slide-offs were reported along Interstate 15 in Iron and Beaver counties between Sunday evening and Monday morning, none of the incidents involved any serious injuries, authorities said.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Bambi Baie said the most serious of the crashes occurred just after 6 a.m. Monday near mile marker 46, just north of the Kanarraville rest area.

“There was a vehicle traveling northbound that started to roll through the median into oncoming southbound traffic,” Baie told Cedar City News. “It landed in the number one lane on its roof.”

Baie said that the driver of a passing semitractor-trailer then stopped to check on the occupants of the vehicle.

“Another car came up behind that was going too fast and was not able to slow down,” she added. “(The driver) lost control and ran into the back of the semi.”

“Miraculously, nobody was hurt,” Baie said, adding that the initial call came in reporting a possible fatality. “He (the responding trooper) got there and nobody was even injured. We like that.”

At least three other crashes or slide-off crashes occurred Sunday night along I-15 in Beaver County, with a handful of others being reported along I-15 on Monday morning in northern Iron County and into the southern part of Beaver County.

Baie said the incidents serve as a reminder for drivers to slow down and maintain appropriate following distance between them and the vehicles in front of them, especially in adverse weather and road conditions.

Make sure you have good tires,” Baie added. “They really make a big difference.”
