IRON COUNTY — A pickup truck driver was injured in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 15 on Friday afternoon.
The incident was reported shortly before 3 p.m. and involved a black Chevrolet Silverado with an adult male driver as its only occupant.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott Mackelprang said the driver was heading northbound just north of the New Harmony exit at mile marker 42 when his truck went off the left side of roadway and struck a cable fence barrier.
After going over the fence and rolling multiple times, the vehicle ended up upside down in the center median, adjacent to the southbound side of I-15.
A passerby reportedly helped the the driver get out of the vehicle just as the first emergency responders were arriving. The man was then transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Cedar City Hospital.
Mackelprang told Cedar City News later Friday evening that he did not know the extent of the driver’s injuries, nor did he have an update on his condition.
“After further investigation, we don’t believe impairment was a factor,” Mackelprang added.
In addition to multiple Utah Highway Patrol troopers, other responders included firefighters from New Harmony and Kanarraville fire departments and deputies from Iron County Sheriff’s Office.
Southbound traffic on I-15 was impacted for approximately one hour while the scene was investigated and cleared. Vehicles were seen backed up as far as north as the rest area approximately four miles north of the crash scene.
This report is based on statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
