3 cars involved in collision at River Road and Riverside Drive after failure to yield

ST. GEORGE — Failure to yield during a left turn at one of the busiest intersections in St. George led to a three-car collision Wednesday night.

The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Riverside Drive and River Road.

St. George Police officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News in a text that the driver of a silver Toyota Camry heading eastbound on Riverside was turning southbound onto River Road and had a blinking arrow.

The driver began to make her turn, Mitchell said, but misjudged the distance and collided with a white Mazda.

The driver of the Mazda, Mitchell said, was traveling eastbound on Riverside Drive.

“He said the vehicle pulled out in front of him,” Mitchell wrote. “He tried to miss her, but they collided.”

A third vehicle was damaged in the chain reaction, Mitchell said, as the driver was traveling eastbound and turning into the intersection.

St. George Police, two St. George Fire Department engines and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene. Traffic was slowed through the intersection but not stopped as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

Mitchell said no injuries were reported and the driver of the Camry was cited for failure to yield on a left turn.

This report is based on statements by police personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings of the investigation.
