2 are better than 1: First infants born in 2023 in St. George are twins

ST. GEORGE — St. George has welcomed not one but two New Year’s babies as the first infants born in the city’s hospital in 2023 were twins.

Laura Murdock, St. George Regional Hospital Communications Specialist, sent a picture of the twins along with the following announcement to St. George News in a text Sunday night.

“Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital is happy to announce that their first baby born in the new year are a set of twins! Little Scarlette Grace Clark came first at 3:27 a.m. weighing 4 pounds 9 ounces and her little brother, Axel James Anthony Clark, came shortly after at 3:41 a.m. weighing 4 pounds 11 ounces.

“Jennifer and Austin Clark, parents to baby Scarlette and Axel, are overjoyed to welcome their babies in the new year. Both babies are recovering in the neonatal intensive care unit since they arrived six weeks early from their due date of Feb. 10.

“According to Jennifer, both babies were born with a little bit of fluid in their system. Scarlette is now breathing on her own while Axel continues to receive oxygen support.

“St. George Regional Hospital is proud to welcome their first babies of the new year. Welcome to 2023 Scarlette and Axel!!”
