Voice of the Trailblazers talks women’s basketball, opening of the WAC season

ST. GEORGE — The Utah Tech women’s basketball team, off to an outstanding start to the season at 8-3, begins play in the Western Athletic Conference with a pair of in-state rivalry games.

According to a press release, the Trailblazers open WAC play Thursday night in Cedar City with a rivalry game at Southern Utah University.

Then Saturday Utah Tech will host Utah Valley at Burns Arena at 2 p.m.

In the video above, Voice of the Trailblazers Rod Zundel caught up with Trailblazers guard Breaunna Gillen, the WAC’s leader in scoring and assists. Zundel asked her what it’s like getting reading for the WAC season.

“It’s the same as going into preseason. Super excited after a strong preseason,” Gillen said. “We’re confident and ready to get going.”

Senior guard Maggie McCord told Zundel, “We’re really confident with each other. Our team. I feel like we did very good for our preseason schedule. We’re more confident then ever.”

McCord is the second-best rebounder in the WAC. See the above video for Zundel’s complete interviews with Gillen and McCord.
