ST. GEORGE — First responders quickly extinguished a structure fire in a Washington City Home on Thursday night.
The Washington City Fire Department received a report of smoke coming from the basement of a home at 229 E. 200 North at approximately 7:30 p.m., Fire Captain Brandon Moore said. The department’s Engine 61 arrived and was able to “knock the fire down from the basement” after their initial attack.
Other crews arrived and completed an overhaul, Moore said, adding that while the fire was “held in the basement,” there was smoke damage throughout the home.
During the overhaul process, firefighters check the house for hidden fires or indicators of burning to ensure the fire is under control and won’t reignite.
There was a single occupant in the home at the time of the fire, Moore said. They were evaluated by Gold Cross and were reportedly uninjured.
Four fire trucks and about 17 or 18 firefighters responded to the scene, Moore said, adding that they received assistance from the Washington City Police Department and the St. George Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
