Hurricane officer interrupts burglary
ST. GEORGE — An officer patrolling areas hit by a rash of business break-ins interrupted a burglary in progress in Hurricane late in the night on Dec. 7, leading to the recovery of stolen property and charges filed against two suspects already in jail on unrelated charges.

ST. GEORGE —A Washington County man is one of nine defendants indicted in federal court, accused of playing a role in a $100 million scam involving the sale of nutritional and dietary supplements – a scheme that involved straw buyers, fake storefronts, thousands of transactions and hundreds of companies – all set up to deceive consumers and bilk millions from payment processing centers.

Post-pandemic price hikes impact Utah’s renters; how is Southern Utah faring?
ST. GEORGE—A recent study found that Utah’s rent prices have increased more in the last two years than in the previous decade. How is Southern Utah faring?
Rent for one- and two-bedroom apartments in St. George has increased more than 10% since 2021, while in Cedar City, the monthly cost of a two-bedroom apartment has gone up more than 20% in the same time, while rent for one-bedroom apartments has decreased.

Semi destroyed in fire at Parowan truck stop
CEDAR CITY — A semitractor truck was destroyed in a fire at a truck stop in Parowan on Saturday.
The incident was reported shortly after 11 a.m. at the TA Express Travel Center located just off Interstate 15’s Exit 78.

St. George woman creates her own sensitive skincare line, and it’s backed by science
ST. GEORGE —When one woman suddenly developed a reaction to common ingredients in most skincare products, she set out on a mission to create her own line, one she’s now sharing with the world.
“In the beginning, it was really just a solution for me,” Alessandra Foos, owner of The Conscious Company, said. Inspired by a whipped body butter recipe she saw on Facebook, she decided to make her own skincare products. Foos said the initial recipes were “awful” and she “failed miserably,” but that didn’t stop her.
