ST. GEORGE — In snowy conditions 10 miles south of Enterprise on state Route 18, a passenger vehicle with two aboard reportedly lost control and side-swiped an oncoming full-size pickup truck with two passengers late Wednesday morning.
Authorities say both passengers in each vehicle were injured. One person aboard the passenger vehicle had CPR performed and was airlifted to St. George Regional Hospital.
“It’s potentially fatal,” Lt. Shawn Judd with the Utah Highway Patrol said. “They’re in very serious condition.”
The crash occurred around 11 a.m., at mile marker 31 of SR-18. While the incident remains under investigation, Judd said there are preliminary indications the passenger vehicle, traveling south, lost control and came over into the truck’s direction of travel. A collision occurred between the passenger sides of each vehicle.
Along with the person airlifted, another person was critically injured but transported by ground. Judd said he wouldn’t describe the injuries to the other two individuals as “minor” and also didn’t have information on the gender and ages of the people injured.
While a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service warned motorists to expect icy, snowy and wet conditions throughout Southern Utah on Wednesday, Judd said the crash is another reminder, especially in the northern regions of the area as snow is accumulating.
“These aren’t optimal conditions,” Judd said. “People need to slow down.”
