At approximately 1:48 p.m. the Hurricane Valley Fire District was dispatched to a structure fire at 687 N. 100 West, according to a news release issued by the agency.

The person who reported the fire returned home to the sound of the smoke alarm, light smoke throughout the home and a conflagration in the garage. When the first fire company arrived, they “quickly extinguished the flames,” the news release said.

The company completed an overhaul in the garage and other parts of the home to prevent fire extension, and it remained contained to the garage, according to the release.

Overhauling involves checking the area for hidden fires or indicators to ensure the fire is under control and does not reignite.

The attic and other areas of the home sustained smoke damage, and the damages were estimated at approximately $125,000, the release states.

The department reports there were no injuries resulting from the fire and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Two fire engines, two ladder trucks, one ambulance and a rescue squad were dispatched to fight the fire, Hurricane Valley Fire deputy chief Joe Decker said.

The Hurricane City Police Department, Hildale Fire Department and Hurricane City Power also responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by first responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
