WASHINGTON CITY —  The Washington City Fire Department was dispatched at about 4:42 p.m. Tuesday to a private farm called at 458 E 2000 S with reports of a “person fallen off a haystack and run over by a tractor,” said on-duty Fire Captain Kelly Lang.

However, as they arrived at the reported address at approximately 4:47 p.m., they discovered the emergency scene was not there. Lang said firefighters located the emergency site close to the intersection of Merrill Road and 300 East.

“The emergency was not as bad as it was reported,” Lang said. “He fell off a 15-foot haystack but was not run over by a tractor.”

The injured 55-year-old male did suffer a head laceration and was experiencing head, chest and back pain. Lang added those symptoms were consistent with a fall from that height and onto rocks.

The male received care for his laceration at the scene and was transported by ambulance at approximately 5:04 p.m. to St. George Regional Hospital via Gold Cross Ambulance. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

The scene was cleared by 5:12 p.m., with the fire unit being the last to leave.

Lang said the original report was the person fell about 30 feet and the incident site was not where firefighters reported. He reminded people to try and get the closest address possible for the emergency as time is of the utmost importance when an injury occurs.

This report is based on statements from police, fire or other responders on the scene of the incident and may not contain the full scope of findings.
