The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. approximately 3.5 miles east of where SR-20 begins at Interstate 15’s Exit 95.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Randy Riches said the rider was heading eastbound on SR-20 when the motorcycle struck a deer that was crossing the road. The rider was thrown from the bike upon impact and ended up near the bike on a snowy berm alongside the right shoulder of the roadway.

“A couple passerby stopped to help,” Riches said. “One happened to be a doctor who rendered medical aid at the scene.”

The injured man, whom Riches said appeared to have been wearing a helmet and other protective gear, was later transported via Gold Cross Ambulance to a hospital.

Riches told Cedar City News at the scene that he did not know the man’s condition nor the extent of his injuries.

Multiple Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to the incident, which caused a temporary closure of the right lane. The impact to traffic was minimal, however, as there are two eastbound lanes going up the hill at that location.

This is a developing story.
