CEDAR CITY — Firefighters extinguished an attic blaze that burned part of the roof of a residence Monday night in the Strawberry Point area a few miles from Duck Creek Village.

Cedar Mountain Fire Chief Chad Poulsen said the incident was reported at 6:30 p.m. Monday by a resident of the home who smelled smoke and could see flames.

One person was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene and released, Poulsen said, adding that no other injuries were reported.

A total of four personnel from Cedar Mountain Fire Protection District, in one fire engine and one ambulance, responded to the incident, Poulsen said.

“Most of the damage is to the attic and roof joists,” Poulsen said, adding that the home’s occupants were temporarily displaced for the night.

“We had to make sure it didn’t flare back up or anything,” he said. “Plus, we had to shut the power off until our inspector could come back in the next day and look at it in the daylight.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Poulsen added.

Also responding were a few volunteer firefighters from Orderville, along with some from the nearby town of Glendale.

“Unfortunately, Glendale didn’t have four-wheel drive capability to get up to where the fire was,” Poulsen said. “But they did try to help and that’s what matters.”
