ST. GEORGE — The preliminary results for the 2022 midterm election are coming in for Iron and Washington counties and the state overall.

Early results began to come in later than usual with the announcement earlier in the day from the Lt. Governor’s Office that results wouldn’t be released until everyone in line to vote across Utah by 8 p.m. had casts their ballot.

“Eligible voters deserve the opportunity to cast their ballots without outside influence, including data from preliminary results,” Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson said in a statement Monday.

On the federal level, Sen. Mike Lee appears to have won another term in office over challenger Evan McMullin. While Lee’s lead against McMullin began to shrink as vote totals continued to come in, McMullin conceded the race around 11 p.m.

Rep. Chris Stewart will also return to Washington, D.C. next year as preliminary returns have him in a sizeable lead over  Democratic challenger Nick Mitchell.

Races in Washington County show Republicans continuing to dominate public office with over 73-75% of the vote in the case of the three County Commission seats.

Election results will be updated as the numbers come in. Updated: Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 3:35 p.m.

The results of these races are considered preliminary and will not be made official until they are canvased in the coming weeks.
