Batten down those ghosts and goblins – wind advisory forecasts gusts up to 55 mph in Washington County

ST. GEORGE — Don’t let your witch run away with the wind.

Early Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service out of Salt Lake City issued a wind advisory for lower Washington County, including the cities of St. George, Hurricane and Ivins. The advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday, Oct. 27. Northwest winds between 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 55 mph, according to the weather service.

The area forecasted to be most impacted is lower Washington County near north-south running canyons. Those in St. George proper are unlikely to see strong winds.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. A few power outages are possible. If in areas normally impacted by gap winds, secure outdoor objects including Halloween decorations,
trampolines and outdoor furniture.

Precautionary and preparedness

The area of impact includes Interstate 15. The weather service says to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects. Also be careful when opening automobile doors that are likely to catch in the wind.
