Paper Jams: Take a stroll down memory lane with piano rocker Mark Boggs

FEATURE — Southern Utah’s live music scene is flourishing and the Canyon Media crew is back to highlighting local musicians, so gather around for another session of “Paper Jams.”

Coming to you from Cloud 9 Studios at Canyon Media, this month’s edition features Mark Boggs. Boggs is a piano rocker who loves playing the iconic songbooks of Elton John and Billy Joel as well as artists like Randy Newman, Jackson Browne and Leon Russell.

Watch (and hear) Mark Boggs perform live from Cloud 9 Studios at Canyon Media in the media player above.

Boggs started his set at Cloud 9 Studios with “Vienna,” Billy Joel’s ode to growing old. Although not one of the many hits on Joel’s 1977 masterpiece “The Stranger” at the time of its release, the song’s popularity has increased in recent years as more folks are searching for a reminder to stop and smell the roses.

Next, Boggs donned his glitter glasses to pay homage to the “Rocket Man” himself with Elton John’s signature song. A mainstay on radio airwaves, playlists and “greatest songs” rankings for decades, the iconic tune has soared to new heights since the release of the film of the same name celebrating John’s music and life.

Boggs is also a PGA golf professional at the Bloomington Country Club in St. George who plays less and less golf as he becomes more deeply consumed by his passion for music. He plays in Southern Utah as a solo artist and with local band The Relics, a quartet of veteran musicians performing an eclectic mix of classic rock, blues, soul and country. Along with tickling the ivories, he offers both lead and backing vocals. Reach out to Boggs at [email protected].
