The races were staged on a hilly, 3-mile course at Bloomington Hills North Park in St. George.

Trey Despain of Pine View was the overall winner of the boys race, posting a winning time of 15 minutes, 27.27 seconds. Desert Hills then captured the next two spots in the race, with Kaden McKinlay finishing second in 15:39.10 and Christopher Boyer placing third in 15:46.62. All three runners are seniors. In fact, the only underclassman among the top 10 boys finishers was junior James Butterfield of Snow Canyon, who took fifth overall.

Meanwhile, in the varsity girls race, Cedar High edged Pine View by just two team points, 31-33.

The individual girls winner was Pine View senior Brooklyn Hill, who posted a time of 18:38.54.

Pine View coach Dave Holt said that while both Hill and boys winner Despain were each about 10 seconds off their respective personal bests, both runners established new course records on Tuesday.

Hill’s time was approximately 25 seconds faster than that of runner-up Marisa Oveson of Cedar, who finished in 19:04.22. Cedar also occupied the third and fifth overall spots (Emma Page and Mayce Dalton, respectively), with Pine View’s Emmalee Williams finishing in between them. The Region 10 race was staged exactly one week before the upcoming Utah High School Activities Association state championship meet scheduled for Oct. 25 at the Salt Lake Regional Athletic Complex in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City. The state races, which include boys and girls races for all six classifications, are scheduled throughout the day, with the 4A races coming toward the end (4A girls at 3 p.m. and 4A boys at 4 p.m.).

Holt and Snow Canyon head coach Justin Redfearn both told St. George News that they expect the Southern Utah teams to match up well against their Region 11 counterparts from the northern end of the state.
