ST. GEORGE — It’s getting cooler outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still go to the coolest place in town. Accompanied by special guest Sharna Rowe and her little ones, “What’s on the Menu” host Sheldon Demke headed to Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream to see what’s new.
This week, they tried something Demke hasn’t experienced before: the strawberry cheesecake chunk Hurricane. Handel’s makes it with vanilla ice cream, a generous helping of cheesecake bites, more ice cream, strawberries and even more ice cream, all blended together.

They also sampled the caramel cone crunch Hurricane, with vanilla ice cream, waffle cone bites, heath bar bites and loads of gooey caramel. With youngsters at home and on her hip, Rowe knows all about sweet treats.
“That one was my favorite one we had today,” she said. “It has the heath bits in it, which are so good. I’d get that again for sure.”
Before leaving, Demke and Rowe dug their spoons into a blondie sundae. Nuts, butterscotch chips, vanilla ice cream, caramel, then cover it all with a glorious mountain of whipped cream and a cherry on top.
Like it says right there on the sign, Handel’s truly is homemade. All of their 48 flavors are made fresh daily in the store.
Since opening in the summer of 2020, Handel’s has been dishing out happiness to Southern Utah one scoop at a time. It’s no surprise they were voted the community’s favorite ice cream parlor in the Best of Southern Utah contest two years in a row. And with exciting flavors added to their menu every month, it’s always a good time to stop by.
