ENOCH — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that destroyed a detached garage in Enoch on Sunday night.

At 8:50 p.m., dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 1183 E. Midvalley Road.

Cedar City Fire Capt. Lowell Sorensen said the large metal building was filled with smoke and flames by the time firefighters arrived.

“It was starting to exit the structure and burn through the door,” Sorensen said, adding that firefighters breached the bay door in order to direct streams of water inside.

A total of 27 firefighters and personnel responded to the incident, he said, which included the crews of three fire engines, one ladder truck and a couple of smaller rescue trucks.

Sorensen said the department’s crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly, confining the damage to the building and its contents.

“It was starting to spread a little outside the building, so we got a hose on it, really trying to keep the weeds (from catching fire),” he said.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic along Midvalley Road was detoured for approximately two hours while the incident was active.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Cedar City Fire Chief Mike Phillips told Cedar City News on Monday night.
