ST. GEORGE — “What’s on the Menu” host Sheldon Demke is back at it, and this week he took his friend Nikki Hope to Onyx Cafe’s new location on St. George Boulevard.

Delivering wood-fired pizza with bold flavors and local ingredients, Onyx Cafe has recipes you won’t find anywhere else. Owner and chef Devon Roberts is a master of his craft and makes nearly everything on the menu from scratch, including delicious chocolate beverages.

Demke and Hope tried the Mayan, an iced cocoa that knocked their socks off, and the hot chocolate, which Demke said you have to taste yourself to believe.

“I’m literally ruined now,” he added. “I can’t have hot chocolate anywhere else.”

They also enjoyed two tall glasses of homemade root beer, which Roberts makes using his own sarsaparilla recipe.

After digging into a scrumptious Margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil, the duo explored one of the cafe’s most unique menu items. The khachapuri is a traditional cheese-filled bread that comes all the way from Georgia – the country, not the state – and is overflowing with spices.

“There’s so many flavors just bouncing around in my mouth,” Demke said. “If you haven’t been to Onyx Cafe, you need to do yourself a favor and experience it for yourself.”

At Onyx Cafe, food lovers are sure to encounter an artisan dining experience that’s difficult to match in Southern Utah.

“We take the time to make flavors in the way that we think they should be presented to people,” Roberts said. “We’re constantly improving and constantly trying to upgrade our menu.”
