The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. and involved two pickup trucks, a gray Nissan and a white Chevrolet Silverado, at the intersection of 1400 West and 200 North.

Cedar City Police Officer Zach Banz said preliminary investigation indicated that the Nissan driver attempted to turn left while the light was yellow, causing the truck to be struck on its front end by the eastbound Chevrolet.

“Anytime you turn left, you’re responsible to make sure the intersection is clear, whether or not the light’s yellow,” Banz said, adding that the Nissan driver was cited for failing to yield.

No injuries were reported.

Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage and were towed away. Traffic at the busy intersection, which includes vehicles coming on and off southbound Interstate 15 at Exit 59, was impacted for approximately one hour while the scene was investigated and cleared.

In an unrelated incident a few miles away and about three hours later, a Hyundai sedan with a juvenile driver and two juvenile passengers, went off the right side of southbound I-15 near mile marker 53 and crashed into a fence.

Utah Highway Patrol said the car hydroplaned on the wet road, causing its driver to lose control. It was raining in the area at the time of the crash, which happened shortly after 1 p.m.

All three occupants reportedly sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance as a precaution, UHP added.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
