CEDAR CITY — A man suspected of being involved in drug trafficking was arrested following a traffic stop in Cedar City on Wednesday.

Daniel Flores, 23, was booked into Iron County Jail shortly after 2 p.m. During a traffic stop earlier that afternoon, Iron County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly found 12 packages of suspected methamphetamine, each weighing approximately one pound, inside a box on the back seat of his vehicle.

According to a probable cause statement filed on Thursday in support of his arrest, Flores was pulled over by a deputy for allegedly traveling 100 mph in a 75 mph zone.

Deputies responding to the traffic stop called in a K-9 officer and handler to assist. During a free air sniff, the dog gave a positive indication of the odor of narcotics, which led the officers to locate the drugs and seize them, along with the vehicle.

Later that afternoon, the Iron County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page a photo of the impounded white Jeep SUV, with the packaged drugs lined up atop its hood and the K-9 officer called Vojak posing in front of the vehicle.

According to the probable cause affidavit, after being read his Miranda rights, Flores admitted to officers he was knowingly transporting meth to the Salt Lake area.

As of Thursday evening, Flores had not made an initial appearance in 5th District Court.

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
