Police say the incident occurred shortly before 11:45 p.m. at the Maverik store located at 809 W. 200 North.

The robber reportedly pointed a gun at the clerk, who was the only other person in the store at the time, and demanded the money from the cash register.

After jumping over the counter and confronting the employee, the suspect reportedly took a pack of cigarettes and stole the money that was in the drawer, according to a press release issued Thursday morning by Cedar City Police.

An undetermined amount of money was taken but is thought to be no more than about $200.

The suspect is described as a shorter, stocky man who was wearing a dark hoodie and a black mask covering his face.

The man was last seen heading south on 900 West, where he was seen getting into a silver passenger car, police said.

“Investigators believe there was another suspect involved in driving the vehicle,” the news release added.

Video surveillance images that show the suspect are expected to be made available later, after the store’s corporate office authorizes their release, Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow told Cedar City News on Thursday morning.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact Cedar City Police at 435-586-2956 and refer to case number C22-02416.
