Chester K. Snow

Feb. 19, 1927-July 27, 2022

Our dear father in-law, grandfather, uncle and friend, Chester “Chet” K. Snow passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Grandpa has finally been reunited with Agnes, his sweetheart of 72 years, and their three children Gerri Esplin, Kenneth Snow and Kevin Snow, who preceded him in death. What a sweet reunion that must have been.

Grandpa was born in St. George, Utah, on Feb. 19, 1927, to Kenneth and Eunice Snow. He was the third of five children. From hauling and selling rock salt to ranchers on the Arizona Strip at age 10 to delivering produce for Rocky Mountain Service to the grocery store owners of neighboring towns at 16 years old, Grandpa learned to work hard for what he needed.

Grandpa met and fell in love with Agnes Frei “the cute girl from Santa Clara” while attending Woodward School in St. George, Utah. They married on Sept. 8, 1944, and were later sealed in the St. George Temple. Five months after marrying his sweetheart, Grandpa left home to serve as a Seaman Second Class in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Sebago.

Grandpa and Grandma began their family amidst the uncertainty brought on by World Warr II. Upon returning home from his service in the military, Grandpa started back up with Rocky Mountain Service and then moved on to driving semi-trailer trucks for IML Trucking, where he spent the next 30 years.

Grandpa had an incredible work ethic. He worked hard to provide for his family, seeking out opportunities that allowed him to make more than the wages offered around town and working long hours to ensure his family had what they needed. In those early years of marriage and raising children, grandpa was working seven days a week. He would return home early Sunday morning only to leave again that evening.

Grandpa loved St. George and always wanted to raise his family in his hometown surrounded by so many extended family members. When Grandpa had time off work, camping trips at Pine Valley and Cedar Mountain were family favorites. Grandpa loved his family. His love for Grandma especially was undeniable. As Mark Twain said of Adam and Eve, “Wheresoever she was, there was Eden.”

Whether it be an overnight escape in the camper at Lake Mead when the kids were young, their adventures with the Good Sam Club later in life, or gathered with their children and grandchildren, life was full of purpose and meaning because of love.  A true love story like Grandpa and Grandmas never ends.

He will be missed by John Esplin (son-in-law), Cheryl Snow (daughter-in-law); eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sweetheart Agnes; their children, Gerri Lynn Esplin, Chester Kenneth Snow, Kevin Lee Snow; and his grandson Bryan Esplin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George.  Family and friends are invited to his viewing Friday morning, 10-10:45 a.m. at the same location.

The interment will take place at the St. George City Cemetery.
