ST. GEORGE — The driver of a Ford F 150 traveling on Old Highway 91 swerved and hit an oncoming vehicle just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to first responders at the scene.

Andrew Parker,  Santa Clara-Ivins fire chief, said the vehicles had a side-to-side collision. The F150 rolled a couple of times and then landed on its side.

“The gentleman driving the truck was OK,” Parker said. “We treated him on scene and then transported him to the St. George Regional Hospital by ambulance.”

The truck was not drivable and had to be towed. The other vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz sedan, was drivable and was driven by a female with her husband as the passenger. The sedan was scraped up on the side where the Ford hit it, according to police.

“The lady actually did a really brave thing. She left the scene, drove to where she could get cell phone service and then called 911,” Parker said. “The husband stayed with the victim of the other vehicle as she went to get help.”

Responders to the scene included Santa Clara-Ivins Fire Department, Santa Clara-Ivins police, Santa Clara-Ivins Fire and Rescue and the Washington County Sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office could not be reached for additional comment on the incident. This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
