Ada ‘Darlene’ Alldredge Larsen

April 12, 1941-July 25, 2022

She did it. She lived a life focused on loving others, serving God and those around her and was an example of patience, courage and faith – even in the face of five separate cancer diagnoses and several other health challenges over her lifetime.

Ada “Darlene” Alldredge Larsen, 81, passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 25, 2022, at home surrounded by her children. She was born April 12, 1941, in Utah’s Dixie to Verl I Alldredge and Ada Helen Nelson.

Darlene’s devotion to family began in her childhood. She grew up the oldest of eight children in a house full of love and had numerous cousins who lived nearby. In her youth, she spent time making memories by playing with cousins and friends – the activities she participated in entailed everything from swinging from trees to playing sports in the streets. While attending Dixie High School, Darlene was known for her small size and acquired the nickname “Dot” as a Jetette, something she enjoyed telling her granddaughters about. After graduation, she went on to attend Dixie College. While there, she embodied the Dixie Spirit and continued marching as a Dixie Rebelette.

While attending school, Darlene met her sweetheart, Milton Gale Larsen. They were married and sealed in the St. George Temple on May 6, 1960. They moved around their first few years of marriage before returning to St. George in 1965 where they took a leap of faith, with three small children in tow, and started Larsen’s Frostop. Darlene and Gale worked side by side, teaching their family by example the importance of working hard and being committed. As their business grew, so did their family – they went on to add four more children.

Darlene taught by example. She lived a life of service, whether it was for family, church or community. She had a way of leaving people feeling loved and cared about and saw the best in everyone. Darlene lived as a true disciple of Jesus Christ. She cared about the needs of everyone else before her own, even as she neared the end of her time on earth. Although she struggled with her health over the past 23 years, most would never know. She looked forward to any opportunity to support and celebrate her loved ones in their interests, milestones and accomplishments in any way she could — even when she was not feeling her best. She was the glue that held the family together.

She is survived by her children: Milton (Natalie) Larsen, Tammy (John) Hulet, Terol (Jeff) Johnson, Curtis (Kristen) Larsen, Lars (Julianna) Larsen, Gayla (Scott) Peacock and Nicholas (Whitney) Larsen, as well as 37 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with five more great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her siblings: Jeanie May, Jerry (Gerri) Alldredge, Michael Alldredge, Evonne (Burton) Johnson, Nancy (David) Thompson, Dennis (RaeAnn) Alldredge and Alan (Rinda) Alldredge.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Gale Larsen, parents and grandson Joshua Larsen.

Funeral services for Darlene will be on Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints building located at 449 S. 300 E. (St. George East Stake Center) in St. George, Utah. There will be a viewing prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing on Friday, July 29, from 6-8 pm at the same location.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical community in St. George. To every CNA, tech, RN, APP and physician involved in her medical journey, thank you for the loving care you extended to both our mom and family.
