ST. GEORGE — Who doesn’t love cheese? It’s liquid gold, and it’s never tasted better than oozing out of a delicious cheesesteak.
In this week’s episode of “What’s on the Menu,” host Sheldon Demke visited DP Cheesesteaks (short for Downtown Philly) with his pal Troy Rivera, owner of St. George Pawn & Jewelry, to see what’s new from Southern Utah’s champion of cheese.

First up was the cream cheese steak, loaded with sweet red peppers, mushrooms, grilled onions, and of course, sizzling steak and decadent cream cheese. Although the cheesesteaks are fantastic on their own, you can’t go wrong with the accompanying sauces.
“It’s all about the sauces,” Demke said. “I am a sauce king!”
Customers can opt to transform any cheesesteak on the menu into a chicken steak instead, so Demke and Rivers had to try the cherry pepper chicken steak. Colorful and delicious, it features hot sliced cherry peppers, grilled onions and your choice of either melted provolone or classic Philly cheese whiz.
Lastly, they sampled the pastrami sandwich. Loaded with hot pastrami, gooey provolone, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo. Say bye-bye to hunger!
“The cheesesteak sandwich is usually my favorite, but today I’m going to go with the pastrami sandwich,” Rivera said. “It’s awesome.”
Offering an authentic taste of Philly street food, DP Cheesesteaks has additional locations in Salt Lake City, South Jordan, Lehi and Provo. Owner Nick Rhodes started the company with a friend who grew up just outside Philadelphia. They frequently went to lunch together while living in the Salt Lake Valley but couldn’t find a good cheesesteak anywhere.
DP Cheesesteaks also serves up birch beer floats, perfect for a hot summer day. With so many fabulous menu items to choose from, it’s no surprise they won gold in sandwiches in this year’s Best of Southern Utah contest.
