CEDAR CITY — A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft after police said she stole a pickup truck with an attached trailer and drove it to her parents’ house while intoxicated.
The incident began shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday when Iron County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence regarding a report of an intoxicated person. The deputies arrived to find the woman at her parents’ house, having allegedly driven there in a red Dodge 2500 pickup truck with a new Diamond C dump trailer attached.
The woman was unable to explain how she came to be in possession of the truck and trailer, the arresting deputy wrote in a probable cause statement filed in 5th District Court late Tuesday afternoon. Further investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle did not know the woman and had not given her permission to take the truck.
Harlee Jane Davis, who was booked into Iron County Jail shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday, faces multiple charges, including theft of a vehicle and theft of property exceeding $5,000 in value, both of which are second-degree felonies. She also faces a misdemeanor DUI charge along with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Charging documents indicate that Davis is currently on felony probation out of Colorado.
As of Thursday, Davis had not yet made an initial court appearance in connection with the case. At the time of this report, she remains held without bail at Iron County Jail.
This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
