CEDAR CITY — Both drivers were cited following a two-car collision on a residential street in Cedar City on Wednesday morning.

The incident, which was reported shortly after 10:15 a.m., happened on 700 West about halfway between 400 South and 500 South. It involved a yellow Ford Focus and a gray Subaru Impreza.

Cedar City Police officer Heather Daynes said the driver of the Subaru was heading north on 700 West while the driver of the Ford was pulling forward out of the driveway of one of the homes along the street.

“The yellow Ford (driver) pulled out and did not see the driver coming northbound and the Subaru ended up striking the front of the yellow car,” Daynes told Cedar City News. “It looked like a head-on collision, but it was at more of an angle.”

Following the impact, the Subaru continued north for another 150 feet or so before coming to a stop. The man who was driving the Subaru reportedly sustained unspecified minor injuries. After being evaluated by paramedics at the scene, he was taken to the hospital later via private vehicle for additional treatment.

Meanwhile, the female driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries, including abrasions from the airbags going off. Besides the two drivers, there were no other occupants in either vehicle, Daynes added.

Daynes said the Ford driver was cited for failure to yield, while the Subaru driver received a speeding citation.

The speed limit on the road, along with that of most other residential streets throughout the city, is 25 mph.

Both cars sustained heavy front-end damage and were towed from the scene.

Unrelated second crash

In a similar but unrelated incident about three hours later, two cars collided Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of 200 North and 100 East, near Cedar City’s Main Street Park.

Cedar City Police officer Zachary Banz said one driver was attempting to go straight across 200 North, while the other one was trying to make a turn. He said investigators hadn’t yet been able to determine which driver had the right of way.

“We don’t know who’s technically at fault at this point,” Banz told Cedar City News at the scene. “We don’t know who got to their stop sign first.”

In that crash, the driver of a silver Toyota Yaris subcompact car was taken to the hospital via Gold Cross Ambulance for evaluation. Her injuries were not thought to be serious.

Meanwhile, in the other vehicle, a blue Hyundai Elantra sedan, the woman who was driving was not injured, nor was her passenger, a small child.

Although the Hyundai appeared to be still operable despite relatively minor front-end damage, the Toyota sustained more significant damage on its driver’s side door and needed to be towed from the scene.
